In the quiet village of Šmarje pri Kopr, Sveta Marija na hrib, in the heart of Slovenian Istria, the vineyard and olive farm of Ludvik Nazarija Glavina is located. On nearly 24 hectares of vineyards and 5 hectares of olive groves, the story of premium wines and typical Šmar olive oil, marketed under the Santomas brand, begins.
Today, the farm houses a modern oil mill and a wine cellar with a tasting room, oenological laboratory, wine storage and wine bank.
Tastings take place in the tasting room of the Santomas wine cellar – a modernly furnished room with emphasis on traditional Istrian elements creates a warm and homely atmosphere. For a varied and experienced tasting, they are happy to show you around the property and introduce you to the story of the Glavina family.
In addition to the classic tastings, the Santomas estate can also organize a tasting, which we ourselves were delighted with – you are blindfolded during the tasting! They can also prepare lunches or dinners with guided tastings of their wines; they organize receptions for business partners, concerts, get-togethers, just like that; as well as smaller seminars and congresses, and you can also get married on the estate!
The tasting is organized by anyone from 1 to 70 guests.
In the Santomas wine cellar, the main focus is on the domesticated varieties of Slovenian Istria, Refoško and Istrian Malvasia. Among the international varieties, you will find merlot, cabernet sauvignon and syrah in their vineyards.
They fill about 80,000 bottles of premium wine. However, the Santomas brand is clearly divided into two lines of premium wines, within which every demanding wine lover can find a wine that will brighten their day or evening.
Tastings are by prior order (reservations). the price for a package of 4 wines is 30€ per person, 6 wines 40€ per person and 8 wines 50€ per person.
For a blindfolded tasting, the 4-sample package is the most recommended, because it is somehow optimal in terms of time, and there are no obstacles for ordinary tastings.
