One of the most beautiful wine cellars we have ever visited!
The Brič estate is located in Slovenian Istria, right next to the Slovenian-Croatian border on a hill above the pristine valley of the Dragonja river. The estate with 36 hectares of vineyards and an olive tree plantation lies at an altitude of between 270 and 350 meters above sea level and offers an unforgettable panoramic view of the hinterland of Istria, the Adriatic Sea with the Bay of Piran and Venice, and in good weather the view reaches all the way to Triglav and the Italian Dolomites.
The Brič estate is home to one of the most modern wineries in the near and far surroundings. The entire project and the architectural design of the cellar are the work of the renowned European architect prof. Boris Podrecca. The cellar is ranked among the 100 most beautiful cellars in the world.
On the Brič estate, 36 ha of vineyards are planted in one piece, which are cultivated in an ecological way. They are located at an altitude between 270 and 350 m above sea level, due to which the influence of both the Mediterranean and the continent can be felt, which gives their wines a special aroma. Due to the immediate proximity of the vineyards and the way the grapes are harvested, the grapes are from the vine to the mill in less than half an hour, which is a peculiarity of its own. This process preserves all the aromas in the wine, which would be lost during longer transport of the grapes.
TASTING & TOUR OF THE CELLAR!
They currently offer a guided tour of the cellar with tasting. The price is €30 per person. As a standard, such visits include 6 types of wine, as you are greeted with sparkling wine upon arrival, and we experienced the same ourselves. Then we climbed the observation tower, the view is indescribably beautiful! We continued the tour in the cellar, where we were introduced to their operation. When we finished the tour, we tried the remaining 5 wines along with the local cold cuts. The case lasts about 2 hours, but of course you can stay longer. They are very flexible and adapt to the wishes of the guests.
They are aware that they can produce excellent wines only from carefully selected organically grown grapes, with the help of the most modern technological skills, with vigilant control of every step in the production process and the kindness of nature. In their wines, they want to preserve all the richness and harmony of the pristine environment and terroir that is offered to them on the Brič estate. With the varieties they grow, they want to emphasize above all the fruitiness and freshness, as well as the fullness of the young wines. By maturing in large wooden barrels and barrique barrels, they want to achieve the maturity, complexity and fullness of aroma that white, and especially red, wines offer them.
In addition to the vines, the Brič estate also has around 500 olive trees, which were uprooted from the forest. The olives are processed organically, without the use of sprays. They also have their own oil mill, where they produce cold-pressed extra virgin olive oil.
A special feature of the Brič estate is also the source of drinking water, which supposedly has healing powers and restores vital energy.
